January 2013 – Motown Mondays, Chisos Grill and ‘The Voice’

What…a…year! From January to December of 2012 this was my life: I was inducted into “Signatures” as one of a one-of-a-kind, four-part harmony group, got married in Ashland, OR to the man of my dreams, honeymooned in Costa Rica (with the same man, Justin Smith), enjoyed a packed weekly schedule performing on my own, in duos and trios, in “Signatures” and with the Bureau of Standards Big Band, at multiple venues including Orenco Station Grill and Tony Startlight’s, area hotels, the Oregon Zoo, Maryhill Winery, the Portland White House and private house shows…big breath…recorded tracks for a full-length album, had a photo shoot for said album, visited Austin, TX, decided to move there… and DID! I then promptly started auditioning and marketing and now have my gig calendar up and running again. Oh yeah, and the holidays were in there somewhere with lots of travel, including a great trip back to Portland and some shows there. Anyone else dizzy?

Here’s what’s new:

Thursdays – January 17 & 31:
Tara Williamson Solo Acoustic at Chisos Grill!
My first solo gig in town! Great for Dripping Springs and Austin folks, alike!

All Mondays in February:
Motown Mondays at One2One Bar with Ryan Harkrider and The Nightowls
On New Year’s Eve I auditioned for Ryan Harkrider, a local Austin singer-songrwiter-badass-vocalist who leads/co-leads a couple great projects in town. One of these projects, The Nightowls, features some Motown Classic covers and original soul compositions. Although I was sick for the audition, Ryan liked my Aretha/Diana Ross impersonation and…long story short, I’ll be joining the band as a BGV extraordinaire for “Motown Mondays at One2One Bar”. We’re booked out through June for private parties as well and I can’t wait to get started! Visit Ryan’s website to learn more about his music: www.ryanharkrider.com

NBC’s “The Voice” Auditions! – February 9 – Houston, TX
That’s right, folks. I’m back on the reality TV audition trail. I got through one round on this show a couple years ago. It’s just too good to pass up this time with auditions in Houston. I’m after Blake Shelton or Adam Levine…I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, send your friends to my website to sign up for the mailing list – I’ll need all the votes I can get!!

That’s all for now, friends. I’m seriously excited about what this year will bring in my new state. Hope to hear from you soon or see you at a show!

XO,
Tara

Tara Williamson was raised in Northern California and relocated to Austin, TX in November of 2012 after four years of frequent performance in Portland, OR. A life-long musician, Tara has developed an equal affinity for jazz and folk music and has a unique style of singing/songwriting encompassing both. In Portland, OR, Tara enjoyed performing frequently at Tony Starlight’s Supper Club and Lounge, Orenco Station Grill and was the female vocalist for the Bureau of Standards Big Band for two years. Keep an eye out for more Austin venues soon!

Season’s Greetings, friends! I’ll tell ya, it doesn’t feel much like winter here in Austin. A balmy 73 degrees feels more like summer for a northwest girl, but I’m not complaining! It’s beautiful here and I’m settling in nicely. The hill country is home to beautiful oak tress and sunsets, with the thrill of downtown Austin close by…it’ll definitely do!

I’m writing to let you know that I’ll be home for Christmas! What would the holidays be without music? Very blah, indeed! I would love to see you next week, and the easiest way to arrange that is for you to attend a show – you’ll have two opportunities! Please come by so I can sing to you – I miss you and I don’t know when I’ll be back!

Happy Holidays!!

This year has been one of incredible changes. There have been SO many shifts in perspective, focus, and opportunity that it makes my head spin! Not only did I get engaged this year to an amazing man and musician, Justin Smith (who would have foreseen that?!), I was able to commit to my musical profession even more intensely and spend more time with family. Sometimes really acting on what you want to do makes other things just fall into place, and I feel like a lot of that has happened this year.

One thing hasn’t changed: I’m busy. Always have been, probably always will be. This year we’ve gotten into new venues, recorded more and re-released our Holiday album: “Christmas”. I hope that if you don’t already have one, that you’ll check out my home page and get a few! They’re conveniently sized to fit most stockings ;)

SEPTEMBER 2011

The last few weeks have been PACKED with shows: a good problem to have, but also a reason for the lack of website updates! At this point, I’m at Orenco Station Grill every Wednesday through the end of September and then continuing from there on every 2nd Saturday and Last Wednesday.

Our old favorite, the HobNob Grille is having us back for the Belmont Street Faire! Come hear us from noon-2 at 34th and SE Alder. Should be a stompin good time with me, Casey and George.

A new one for September:  I’ll be involved in a music service at Smith Memorial Presbyterian on Sept. 11 at 9:30am. Pastor Cynthia O’Brien has invited me to share some of my music, along with some gospel songs and some spiritual favorites from growing up in church. It should be a great time. http://smithmemorialpres.org/

Also, there’s the Downtown  Hillsboro Farmer’s Market on 9/17!! From 9am-1pm, we’ll be stompin it out in Hillsboro. It’s a fun little market and we aim to get everybody dancin.

Living Room Theaters – I’ll be here on 9/24 from 8-Midnight with Neil Mattson and Julio Appling. This is a classy venue that still lends itself to comfort with great atmosphere, food, drinks and movies galore! The acoustics in this place are some of my favorite in PDX. Come by!

One last thing: Keep your eye our for our first date at Wilf’s!!

XO,

Tara

You won’t want to miss this one! We are honored to have one of Portland’s top trumpet players Justin Smith joins us for the evening. Come out and help us celebrate and enjoy together some of this amazing talent available right here in Portland.
